| Editorial A jewel is a precious stone that is found deep within the earth and its price is determined by its rarity. The jewels contained inside this book cannot be found in any high street jewellers for sale but they are indeed priceless. They do not shine in the sun but cause people to shine. These jewels contained within this book have been mined from deep within the mind of Sincere. He has taken time to search for these forgotten jewels that many thought were lost. He delivers these jewels that will restore the Black woman to her majesty. He addresses many issues that seem to have evaded the consciousness of contemporary writers. These issues include, love, relationships, self-perception and self-development, and the way that the media portrays her. This is a very accessible book written in the author's trademark fluid and conversational style. Excerpts Independence Day You may recall a song called 'Independent Woman' that was released by Destiny's Child. This song became an anthem and contained some very suspect lyrics. But don't get it twisted I am not hating it's just my love that you might not understand. So when is a woman independent? Is it when she is earning a salary and paying her bills? To me that is standard for a woman or man to be able to support themselves financially. What I do find funny though is that there seems to be a lot of young black sisters that have caught this 'independent woman' convoluted feminist vibe. Royalty Black woman you are Royalty, a Queen to be honoured, respected and protected. I detected your pain and my heart quaked even though my eyes did not rain. Shame on an undercover lover, who does, a runner to leave you to suffer, to be a father and mother. A sucker is the kinda brother who discovers the other and defects. My mind detects your intellect although my eyes are blinded by your beauty. Head to toe your smooth melanated skin shines, you are indeed sacred. What's love got to do with it? It seems that romantic songs that are played on the radio and TV constantly bombard us. Also once a year there is a day, Valentines Day, which commercialises on love and the expression of it. On this day cards are exchanged, restaurant cuisine is sampled, champagne flows and? After close investigation it is questionable what this day actually has to do with love. Love is an industry, which encompasses perfumes, garments, and shoes to name a few. |
